Late….
Happy Fourth of July!!
The 4th of July’s of my childhood always involved fireworks, brisk evening air, and a shimmering lake reflecting the festivities. The afternoons were usually spent swimming in the aforementioned lake and roasting vegetarian hotdogs (yum to all of you, i’m sure). But, as we’re far away from home, we had to forge a new tradition, one that turned out to be great fun! Mike and I and our good friends Bill, Sarah, and Ben converged on our friend Arzhang’s house for a barbecue and pyrotechnics. We built up our appetite by bouncing on the trampoline, which is a heck of a lot more tiring than it used to be when I was “young”. Sarah was the only was who managed to pull off a flip. This was following by prodigious amounts of baklava and all sorts of tasty Iranian food. Many thanks to Mother Fallahi for preparing some vegetarian dishes for yours truly. THe fireworks were lots of fun, with us girls setting off most of the explosions while the guys were busy playing with sparklers and cameras. No injuries to report, thankfully.
Many more thanks to the Baklava Queen who sent home to go plates with all of us fortunate baklava souls!
On a sad note, I seem to have found the two or three pounds of weight I’d lost over the last few weeks…
