A Goodbye Bash
This past weekend we threw a goodbye bash for Arzhang before he heads off to medical school. It really started Wednesday night, with the last complete bowling night, where all 5 of us were present. Then Friday night there was gaming for the guys, and dinner out at Acapulco. Arzhang was presented with an awesome bowling bowl as a parting gift, complete with his bowling nickname etched into it: Slashmaster. We’d all better practice because the next time we all meet again for bowling Arzhang will be kicking some A!
Saturday morning Mike and I got up bright and early (which was harder for him since he’d been out until all hours of the morning playing computer games) to prepare for the BBQ portion of the send off weekend. We drove around Nampa looking for some place that sold propane that was open on a Saturday. It was rather reminisque of war driving, except for not quite as fun, because we had a turkey breast thawing in the sink back home that needed to start BBQ-ing ASAP! After a few false finds we finally discovered that Zamzows has propane and is open 7 days a week (just a little FYI for anyone who might find themselves in a similar situation). We rushed back home and got that bird cooking. I made thin crust cheesy-garlic pizza with fresh herbs (grown on my patio) and three kinds of cheese, and baked on a pizza stone. Some chips and salso, and fresh peach slices, and we were ready to party! Well, our parties are actually quite sedate, and usually revolve around eating lots and lots of really good food and bs-ing. As a vegetarian, and therefore not a turkey eater, I was quite amused to watch the effects of the tryptophan on my meat eating compatriots. Let’s just say that not everyone stayed awake the whole time. Of course, it could have been from my conversation, so maybe I shouldn’t say anything…. ![]()
Following the BBQ (once everyone woke up) we finished up the weekend with a trip out to the desert for some trap shooting. It was a blast! hahahaha… that joke is so old, but still funny! The guys did quite well, although my performance left something to be desired. I’m comfortable blaming it on not shooting in almost a year. That and I need a girl gun! We also discovered that shotgun bowling is pretty damn fun. All in all, a great weekend and a memorable one, to say farewell to a great and memorable friend. We will miss having you around, Arzhang! It won’t be the same without you. The best of luck at medical school - we know you’ll succeed!
