Goodbye Nampa, Hello Stanley!

Mike and I got out of town for awhile this weekend when we headed up to Redfish Lake for some camping, hiking, and photography. We drove up Saturday via the Idaho City route, which is one of the windyest (as in lost of corners and swtchbacks, not breezy… I don’t think I’m spelling that right but it’s early and I’m on my way to work so I don’t care) roads I’ve ever seen. We took the Mazda, though, so we didn’t have any troubles! :) We got up to Redfish Lake in the afternoon and found a nice campground on the east side of the lake, and after pitching our tent we headed over to the Redfish Lake Lodge and marina. We rented a double kayak for an hour and explored the lake a little. Kayaks are fairly easy to operate, even for beginners like us, although the stupid paddles kept dripping ice cold mountain lake water on us, even though they had those little black rubber thingys on them that are supposed to prevent that. We managed not to tip over, unlike several people we saw in other rented kayaks who were flailing around foot deep water by the shore. And I swear that some of the motor boats zooming around the lake were purposefully going right by us in an attempt to tip us over with the wake. They didn’t vanguish Team Peck, however, oh no! Anyway, it was a great way to check out the aweosme scenery and get a little exercise.

While we were on a little stroll around the lake, we actually some red fish! I believe they’re chinook, or something, and they migrate all the way up from the ocean to spawn - 800 miles and like 6 dams. Amazing. It was quite cool to see them, especially because I head that years ago their population had been so depleted that only one fish made the migration up to the lake one year, and now they’ve made a bit of a comeback.

Sunday we went for a hike near Stanley Lake and took lots of pictures of big pointy mountains and trees, and then we drove home on another windy road, through Banks. Wheeeeeee!
