SPRING IS COMING!!

March 1st was a beautiful day this year - sunny, warm(ish), crisp and clean… the days have been steadily getting longer, but over the last week it seemed like they got much longer because i could suddendly drive home in the daylight!! And I realized that spring is at last on it’s way. February often seems so interminable, a neat trick for a month that’s missing at least 2 days. Grey, and gloomy, and muddy, and dark. And now all of the sudden it’s going to be spring! in just 17 more days! or maybe 16… whatever. Spring makes me happy. and smiley, and it makes me think of green growing things - trees budding out little cute leaves, and grass poking up (which makes me think of our gravel front yard pleading to be hydroseeded), and flowers and birds chirping and warm sunny breezes blowing across my face. and drinking lots of fruit smoothies like the amazing one Mike just shared with me.

This unexpected outpouring of happy perky sunnyness has caught me rather by surprise. I have suddenly found myself full of excitement and giddyness at the thought of the weeking, or going for a walk, or going to the store, or going mountain biking, or whatever… It’s like I’ve been living in grey and white all winter, in thought and emotion and energy level. And it seemed normal. Now I realize, and remember, that I am really a color photograph, and so is life and the world and etc (i know, getting pretty mushy). And my end point is…

next winter we’re going to Hawaii for at least a week sometime in the middle of the gloom. and I’m getting a sun lamp. Because I’m pretty sure now that I have SAD (seasonal affective disorder in case someone actually doesnt know what that stands for), and not just in a casual “oh yes, I must have that SAD thing, I feel tired in winter” sort of way but really actually. So i’m going to make sure it doesn’t happen so badly next year. Here I come Hawaii!
