Tired!
Yesterday and today were both long and productive days. I will post some pics later. Or Mike will. Yesterday we cleaned our yard up, moved leftover boards, wood, small trees etc up to a family burn pile (thanks again…) then Mike and his dad went to town and rented a bobcat. Or a skidsteer as other brand ones are known - ours was a John Deere. Mike got in some practice on an empty field up on the ranch, which came in handy today when he started excavating 50+ cubic yards of gravel and dirt from around our quarter acre lots. Rather close quarters next to the ol’ house, but he did splendidly and didn’t crash a whole into the side of the house once!
I spend lots of time with a shovel moving around cement like gravel-mud-muck in the areas the bobcat couldn’t get, getting my boots thoroughly coated in same muck, and proving chow for the hungry workers, namely Mike and his dad. Tomorrow we get 40 yards of nice topsoil delivered, then we smooth it out, and then next weekend we get to plant grass! YAY! I am so excited for grass!!!
Home improvement stuff is fun, in a tired muscle sort of way. It’s good for me because I’m sometimes wary of trying new things, mostly because I don’t like knowing how to do things. Everytime we start a project i quickly realize how little I know of such things, but I’m consistently getting more brave about trying things like using a sander, applying wood finish, removing rusty old nails (one of my better areas of skill), lifting rocks and firewood, shoveling, and helping pull wood through planers. I’m also getting better at not being so afraid to jump in and start helping the guys, even when it looks like there’s not really anything I could do, and I usually find out there’s plenty to do! Learning new things is good. Tiring for mind and body, but in a good way.
