the peaceful evening

Sometimes walking through Bayview is the most pleasant place to be…. and sometimes not.

Ampersand and I took a walk down to the mercantile this evening to enjoy the pleasant evening breeze and the sight of sunlight hitting the mountains across the lake. And to buy Mike fishing supplies (snickers, fritos, and dr pepper) for his early morning guy fishing trip tomorrow. The walk down was nice; the view was pleasant, the street free of traffic, a few friendly people out on their porches, and only a few dogs barked at us as we went buy, leaving the loudest sounds of the town to be lawn mowers, people chatting on their porches, and boats out on the lake. I tied Ampersand up outside the mercantile, ran in to buy what I came for (which then expanded somehow to include ice cream bars), retreived my Retreiver (heh heh) and started back up the five blocks to home.

On the way back up, however, no less than 8 dogs barked at us. Considering the short length of the walk this was pretty impressive… couldn’t have spaced them out more evenly if I’d tried. Bark bark bark bark, all the way up the hill. One lady’s daschund even escaped up the fence and started chasing after us up the street, his barks echoing off the neighboring hills, and I had to wait until his owner put on slippers and came up to get him. Erg.

Not really much point to my complaining, except to make me feel better. And as a nice, but unexpected, side effect, moping around while writing this I evidently made Mike feel pity enough towards me for him to share his snickers ice cream bar with me.

And it makes me glad that MY dog doesn’t bark incessantly any time someone goes by. MY dog is better than everyone else’s dog, obviously. Or I am such a superior trainer. Or something.
