Fry Bread Recipe
Yum! I got this recipe from a woman who runs a child care center in Post Falls. She cooks all sorts of yummy things for the kids’ snacks, and this was one of them. It’s about the easiest recipe I’ve come across, and so delicious.
Fry Bread (supposed to be Indian Fry Bread, but there’s a whole bunch of political and historical incorrectness there)
1c. flour
1/2 c. warm milk (works great with soy milk too!)
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix well, pour glop on floured board, put more flour on top so you can roll it out (hardest part of this recipe, this stuff is sticky!) to a thickness of about 1/3 to 1/2 inch. Cut into small pieces about the size of a Triscuit. Or bigger, i don’t care, but this size is easy to fry quickly, so you can eat it!
Heat a frying pan with enough oil in it to cover the bottom. Fry both sides of the frybread pieces until golden brown (when i did it, it was about 20 seconds on each side, but I have burner issues). Drain on paper towels.
When the bread is still hot and oily sprinkle with something yummy, like cinnamon and sugar (tastes like elephant ears), or parmesan and herbs. Or spread with honey butter. Or huckleberry jam. Or eat them plain (actually I kind of like them plain best).
This size batch makes too many for one hungry person ( I know) but would be perfect for two people to have a yummy snack.
