Hmph

I rarely feel moved enough to post about TV shows or movies or the like (being fictional and all, much as I might forget it at times) but I have to say something about tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode. I am annoyed. The writers need to pull their heads out of their whereevers and get their act together.

This is the first TV show that I have watched from its very first episode, and I have since then watched every single episode, in order, within at least a day of its showing (significant because we don’t actually have TV service). I LOVE this show. I have been one of millions of people who plan their evening around making sure they can see Grey’s. When I was in Florida in February I even made my sisters watch it with me - on the yacht my sister works on, which was blocked up in a boat yard for repairs, because they had satellite. My point is, I really have let myself become invested in this show, and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Until the last few episodes, that is. Not that I think this will make any difference in any way, but at least it will be said (and I’ll be proved right). I know what’s going wrong with Grey’s Anatomy. Not necessarily how to fix it, but at least I can tell them how they’re screwing up (wish I could get a full time job doing that).

This show has been so successful and addictive because people came to care about the characters and what happened to them. We watched them struggle and grow and learn and survive. They’ve gone through really crappy things, but good things have also happened. But lately, the last half of this season, the writers have made so many crappy things happen to every single one of the characters (and all of their loved ones) that I no longer want to be invested in them, because I figure something terrible is just going to happen to them again, at any time. So i no longer care as much. And that makes me annoyed. Because Grey’s is there is entertain ME, obviously.

In case anyone’s curious, here’s how much crappy stuff has happened to everyone on the show prior to tonight.

Meredith: Boyfriend married, chooses wife. Mother crazy. Mother dies. Meredith almost dies. Newly discovered stepsister + baby almost die. Dog dies. Stepmother dies. Father slaps and rejects her. Half sister flirts with Derek in a bar. And she almost got blown up by a bomb.

Christina: Ectopic pregnancy, loses baby. Father died young. Can’t think of anything else…

George: Father dies of cancer. The whole Meredith sleeping with/rejection nastiness. Cheats on wife while drunk.

Izzie: Denny dies, George married, won’t pick her. Also, gave up baby, had to see her because daughter has leukemia and needed bone marrow transplant.

Chief: Niece dies, wife leaves him, wife pregnant, loses (their) baby. Oh yeah, also he had a brain tumor.

Burke: Gets shot, gets a tremor, etc.

Baylie: Husband in a car crash on the way to the hospital as she’s having a baby.

Man that’s a high concentration of messed-up-ness. I am highly annoyed.
