Yay!
i’m writing this post with one hand as Mike is sleeping with his head on my lap and i don’t want to disturb him. We’re on the couch watching Planet Earth on DVD. Excellent stuff. I like the episodes with the British guy narrating.
I have 5 days off from work starting tomorrow. I’m so glad. Five days is like a real vacation to me now. Gone are the college days where I thought i couldn’t manage without my 9 day vacation every six weeks. Pansy. Tomorrow we’ll go to a big family bbq at the ranch. My parents will go too. I’m sure there will be lots of lawn games and food eating and socializing. Followed by setting off fireworks in the driveway. We were asked to bring some this year, so i stopped off at a stand on my way home from work. I realized as i did so that it was something I’d never done before. My family was never into home fireworks much - usually we spent the day at the beach. I had a moment of feeling awkward about not knowing what to get until i reminded myself of my New Year’s resolution to Try New Things! and to not Be a Chicken and that helped.
Mike just woke up and accused me of taking up too much space. Apparently he doens’t understand the my cushion/your cushion rule.
Ampersand is sleeping on the floor near the couch. People are setting off fireworks around town every ten minutes or so, and he growls in his sleep each time. Attack dog!
Thursday and Friday we’re going camping with friends at the lake, yay! It’s supposed to be 105 so that means I’ll get to try out my new Victoria’s Secret swimsuit. That is, if I don’t freeze up with modesty. I swear, they make a killing if you figure in price per square inch of fabric. And I bought the slightly more modest one.
Mike has been being very mysterious. My birthday (the quarter century one) is on Sunday and Mike has had the last two days off and won’t say what he’s been up to, only that he’s “tired” and “was busy all day” and I’m not allowed to look online at our bank activity. Very annoying, yet intriguing.
Time to go to bed. I just looked over at the chair by the door and saw the package of fireworks I bought sitting on it. I’m wondering if it’s safe to leave fireworks inside the house (you know, like how you’re not supposed to have gas cans near your residence… the cat could start playing with matches) but have decided that I’m really pathetic and need to get myself checked out for my fire paranoia.
Happy Fourth of July! Although I wouldn’t mind being British too much. But anywhoo. I’ll be celebrating the intelligent/tolerant/non-judgemental/free thinking/creative parts of America tomorrow.
